Fair Housing Act protection in Oregon
The federal Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3604) applies to landlords in all 50 states, including Oregon. Once you present a valid ESA letter, your landlord is required to make a reasonable accommodation for your emotional support animal. That means landlords across Oregon cannot:
- Refuse to rent to you because you have an ESA
- Charge pet rent, pet deposits, or any pet-related fees for your ESA

The same federal protections apply to apartments, condos, single-family rentals, university housing, and most other rental settings.
